I got the HW RSU unit and plan to use it in Florida caves in a couple of weeks.
The unit comes with a couple of cable ties, two clear velcro pads and a piece of bungee, but there is no suggestions on how to mount it in the accompanying literature.
I plan to mount the slave strobe between the twinset of the model and I guess the model needs to hold the RSU and point it towards me. Any suggestions or tricks? If you have a mounted unit, I'd love to see a pic of the set up.
Thanks,
Jesper
Mine just came as is - the units and nothing else, unless my memory is faulty.
Mounting the strobe between the tanks is good, take lots of duct tape. Two tips...ask your model to remember that their cave clearance distance has just increased or your strobe will take a beating on the roof. And secondly, if you can get them to hold the RSU in their non-primary light hand you'll get better reliability from the RSUs. I also have a little piece of bungee around the cable near the RSU that allows the model to hook it over their finger for hands-free modelling, or to clip it back to a double ender if required.
GUE trained cave divers can be good models because they tend to dive with both hands sticking out in front (perfect for holding the RSU away from the light) but it's harder to persuade them to straighten their knees (and so you get flare on the legs and leg shadows down the tunnel from the tank mounted strobe). Have a good time, and post your results!
Here's a recent shot that kind of shows the setup - there's a strobe on Brian's back, and another in his hand. The trigger for the one on his back is in his left hand, you can see the coiled cable coming over his shoulder next to the yellow hose. The trigger for the one in his hand is taped to the strobe so it points in the opposite direction to the light. You can also see shadows in the water where his legs have blocked the light from the strobe on his back...I don't like it when I get these on tunnel walls, but that's just me.
