WANTED Fathom 90 Lens

5 posts
  1. Hi my name is Nigel and I have just joined this site. I have been diving for quite a while but just bought the L&M Bluefin OLED housing and am using the Canon XA 10 video camera in it. Compared to my little IXUS 70 it is truely awesome. Not surprisingly I have blown my budget but would like to get a fathom 90 Lens for it - I am not sure if there are different fathom 90 lenses or whether one fathom 90 lens the same as any other?

I am also looking at video lights - I tried the SOLA 1200's in the Solomons a couple of weeks ago but think I need more lumens! The controls also got a bit sticky between 37 and 65m and L&M are looking at that - although to be honest most of my diving is usually in the 10-30m range.

So any feedback woudl be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Nigel

  2. Welcome Nigel, i can't help with the lens but if you need more lumens than 1200, then get the big boys, a set of sola 4000's should fit the bill.

    Cheers Pete.

  3. Hi Nigel,

I may be able to help. What were you looking to spend? The Fathoms lens are often NOT interchangeable between camcorder housings from L & M. However, some may be and I have two Fathoms ports that may do the job.

Hi Steve I am even more impoveraged now as I have just purchased two SOLA 4000's :-) you know what? They are worth it! I took them for a test dive on Sunday over at Rottnest Island off the West Coast of Australia and well! All I can say is LET THERE BE LIGHT! Anyway the Fathom 90 lens for the Canon XA10 is the latest one part number 802-8059 and retails in Australia for about $2K - I can get it a little less from my local dive store but was really looking for a used one at less than $1K (to avoid having to pay import tax - items over A$1,000 attract 10% ). Sorry about the delay in replying but I didn't get notification that there had been a response to my blog.

  5. Hi Steve,

I am about to buy the a new set. Stil in big doubt between the new Genesis from Amphibico and the Bluefin with G10. Amph is much more my choice, but as I'm not making any money with it a bit over budget. So probably it is gonna be the BlueFin. That means I might be interested in purchasing a Fathom W90. If you have one for sale, make me an offer I can't refuse!

Nigel, I have also looked at new lights and have chosen for the Mangrove's 4L. They are amazing and give more than 4000 Lumen.
