  1. Doing some research for a friend. Does anyone make a housing for the Sony NX70U?

On another note, how would people compare the quality and ergonomics of Ikelite housings to that of the Equinox? I have never used either but he is seeking something a bit less than a 20K housings.

    Thanks for the input.

  2. Not being a user of either, I was interested in user comparisons between these two brands of housings. Somehow, it got deleted and I don't know or understand why unless it is Sponsor pressure of some kind. Never the less, I would like to learn of user opinions regarding the quality and company support regarding these two makes of housings if anyone cares to provide their views.

    Thanks,

    Steve

I suggest you use the subscribe function for the threads you've started so you go back to them should anyone answer. Nothing has been deleted. You just need to remember how to use the search function for the threads you started. There's no need to cast aspersions.

I've merged your 2 threads on the same topic. FYI.

I have used both, albeit briefly.

Both kept the water out! :)

Equinox have excellent sales and service. Very helpful. Personal approach. Proactive follow-up.

Ikelite had reasonable sales and support, but a little "mass-market", if you know what I mean.

I stopped using both because I never became comfortable with the manual rod control system. Too fiddly. Too slow to operate when something important comes along.

Neither had a really great monitoring option. The Ikelite has a mirror arrangement on the side. Not intuitive, especially for macro subjects. The Equinox has a monitor in line with the lens but, because it is mounted vertically behind a very thick perspex panel, your head needs to in an unnaturally low position, placing the whole housing tube between the eyes and the subject.

Ikelite flat port is a bit limiting with the usual corner sharpness issues. Equinox has a semi-dome that gives good images.

The Equinox had an additional problem in that it weighed a ton. Because of the cylinder design, there is a lot of air inside to compensate. Their ballast design uses special shaped weights, one inside, two built into the handles. So you have to take them with you. Very heavy. Nice for UW stability but a pain on the boat and impossible as a airplane carry-on.

  5. Much thanks for your feedback. Wasn't trying to cast aspersions, I thought that there might have been a reason why the post was no longer there.

Would like to hear other's experiences as well. Do both brands use glass or acrylic or provide choices?

My mother used to say, "Better to cast nasturtiums than aspersions".
