  1. Very nice Edward. Did you enjoy shooting with that lens? Having shot it on a crop sensor camera this time, how would you compare it to the Tokina 10-17?

    Hi Bill,

    My experience has been that the lens works very nicely with cropped sensor cameras such as the 600D. The file quality, from my own opinion, is better than the Tokina 10-17. Not only it is sharper, the color rendition looks to be better. AF also seems to be quicker.

  3. Thanks for sharing Edward.

    My son and I both shoot NA-7Ds with either Tokina 10-17s, Sigma 8-16s or Canon 10-22s. Of those three, the only glass which lets us down is the Sigma with its soft corners and clearly needs a bespoke rectilinear dome port. I hear that you are about to release one :D

    Can you make a comparison between the Canon 8-15 and the three lenses we are using (on DX) when shooting at full coverage? Also, which port do you use with the Canon?

    The other lens which is tugging at my wallet is the Sigma 4.5mm F2.8 EX DC HSM Circular Fisheye... :)

    Many thanks, Tim

  4. Great set of shots Edward.

    Was the Turtle from the dive at Steve's Bommie ?

  5. @ Tim:

    It has been an ongoing task of us for some time in finding better solutions for rectilinear ultra-wideangle lens. Fisheye lenses have a virtual image field that, in many cases, work quite nicely with hemisphere dome ports. What we found has been that hemisphere dome ports, even up to 9-10 inches, do not match the image field of a rectilinear wideangle lens well.

    Our latest development is a 10 inches wideangle port with a port lens curvature optimized for rectilinear wideangle lenses. It is still a struggle between physical size and image performance. Basic on tests the image quality has, relative to a hemisphere dome port, improved quite a lot, but could be better if the port is made larger which will become impractical for normal use.

    At present the 10" wideangle port is at preliminary stage and is machined from acrylic. We are considering whether we can make it in glass in near future. Some test photos can be watched here (most of them are at the widest end of the lenses): http://nauticam.smugmug.com/HousingTests/1...19509592_BDVhpN

    We used the 4.33 dome port with 30mm extension ring with the 8-15 lens. It certainly outperform the Tokina 10-17 in terms of AF speed, sharpness, color rendition and construction. I have only used the 10-22 once with a 6" wideangle port and had slight soft corners. Haven't tested the Sigma 8-16 yet (Nauticam USA had tested it and found the corners to be decent). We will continue the research and test the 10" port with these lenses later.

    @Matt:

    Long time no see. Yes, the Turtle shot was at Steve's Bommie.
