A friend and pro topside shooter called and asked for Maui dive shops that I could recommend. Never been there so if anyone here can make some good suggestions, I am sure he would appreciate it. He is a fairly new diver but comfortable in the water.

There are a lot of good dive shops there, but I have only dived with Lahaina divers (Sept 10, Sept 11) and really liked them a lot. They are, I think, more for the "masses" but they have nice Newton boats and everyone from the company I've run into is nice and does a nice job. I've heard Ed Robinson's is good and I'm sure there are others on the island. To some degree it also may depend on where your friend is staying. Our timeshare is in Ka'anapali and so it is a 5 minute drive to Lahaina divers. They leave at 7:30 for the special dives away from shore (Molokini Crater, Lanai'i, Molokai, so to get to Kihei where some other operations are would take 1/2 hour or more. And if staying further south on the coast, the opposite would be true. Anyhow, I've been happy with Lahaina divers but if a smaller group of divers is desired look into other operations. And, if he is reasonably skilled, the back wall of Molokini crater is fantastic. The inside of Molokini is wonderful too. Hell, I like all the dive sites there, lol.
Thanks for the info, will pass it on.

Hey Steve,
Another option would be B&B Scuba - I can't say enough good things about them. They litterally saved our first dive trip to Maui at the last minute when another operator let us down. The DM's did a great job of not treating everyone the same - so experienced/skilled divers can go along knowing they will treated as such. The crew were as friendly as they were capable. Their shop in town (Kihei) was well-stoked and the folks there were just as great as the boat crews.
Their boat trips leave the town dock at 6 or 6:30 (can't remember which) and go to the sites weather and conditions permit - as usual. Dives weren't limited - except, they don't want you getting into deco.
