Shark photos with 1200W strobes WIRED from boat in Fiji

  1. "Mad" Mike Muller was in Fiji to shoot the Beqa sharks with boat powered 1200W studio strobes, using the Nauticam Phase 1 housing. The Vlog is for the Travel ChannelMore interesting is the myriad of wires they used to power the strobes, all powered to run the studio strobes. Running cables around a shark feed doesn't seem to be the best idea in care for the sharks, since they can chew right through the cables and get fried. Seems to me 5x250W or even 3x625W strobes clustered together with a special reflector and a remote firing system for each light bank would've allowed more freedom and minimize the stress (one of the videos in the Vlog is pretty funny as tempers flair over nothing!).

The program is about the trials and tribulations of the crew in Fiji to shoot the sharks:

Be interesting to see the images; hard to imagine they'd be anything exciting, in that environment. As high-end as it sounds, seems pretty limiting to me. Limited wide angle lens choices, relatively small viewfinder and a lighting setup that's probably less versatile than regular strobes or a light-bank like you mention.

  3. Ouch! :) Maybe if he printed it out to a 20ft piece, it'd be more impressive.
