Light and Motion Sola 600

  1. Just wondering if the following Light and Motion Sola 600 light would be adequate for Video.

Also for still photography compact user moving to dslr - currently using Inon Le240 focus lights which I like for being not to bright having any hotspots - will the L&M Sola beam being strong produce hotspots?

I will be using the Canon 550D

    Thanks for your input.

Only for Macro work, your welcome to come and grab mine if you want to give it a test.

    Cheers

  3. What other lights do you use Chriso?

I think I may only be able to take macro-only video if I get a chance to dive the wreck trail eh? :)

Not much chance of wide angle...

Im wondering what sort of video lighting range the 1200 will give me then?

SInce you own a set, what's your opinion of the lights?

  5. I own a set of sola 1200's & absolutely love them! I think you will struggle with 600's for anything but macro work.

    Cheers Pete.

  6. Hey Pete

Cheers I think the 1200s may be the way to go unless Fisheye Fix range is anything to compare with

    fancy meeting you here :)

  7. How about that.

  8. Well depends on what kind of diving you do. The Sola has a built in battery. So you can't use the light while it's charging. The Fix 1500 has interchangeable batteries so you just change and can go straight back to work. So if you go out on a boat and can't charge for the day but have to do many dives, the changeable battery is a great option. I remember there were issues with the Sola 600 earlier this year. You may want to check the archives.

The Fix 1500 is @ 9000k, so you may want to filter it down, which drops light output.

  9. Hi Gavin,

Yes mate, there are a handful of diveozians that tread the waters of wetpixel also. As for the battery issues of using a sola 600, the main reason i went with the 1200's was the extra battery life of the brighter light.

I only use my sola 1200's for macro shooting as i have another set for wide angle work (i have both a macro lens & wide angle lense so i know what i am shooting), so i only use the 1200's on the lowest power setting but that gives me something like 4 or 5 hours of battery life. That way i could shoot macro all day long & not have to recharge until the night time.

Plus the size is another bonus, these things are so small & compact. They would be great for travelling due to there size & weight & i won't have to carry a heap of spare batteries.

If you ever come to sydney i am happy to loan you my lights if you want to have a play with them.

Otherwise, give Pete Mooney a call. I bought my lights through him & he was the one that pointed out the extended battery life that i didn't think of.

    Cheers Pete.

    2X Light Monkey 50W HID's with 15aH battery packs.

Just as good as turning on the sun but they are so heavy I need the CUDA to drag them round.

I like the compact nature of the Sola's but the burn-time is just not enough for the caves.

Give Pete @ ScubaPix a call he can set you up with a set of 1200's
