December 2012 Cozumel trip

  1. I just got back from a pre-Christmas trip to Cozumel with my wife, her mother, and our son. The diving was excellent, and here are a few highlights from the trip.

    As always, c&c are welcome.

  2. Nice photos. Who did you dive with? I am taking a dslr to Cozumel for the first time, and need to know a camera friendly dive operator.

  3. Thanks. We stayed at the Presidente, and dove with their in-house dive shop, Scuba Du. They were good, but there are many other good choices that are photographer friendly, too.

  4. I spent 6 days at the Presidente in October and enjoyed the stay.

Instead of the in house op, ScubaDu, we opted for Aldora divers because they are the only outfit to use high pressure 120 tanks. All that air translates to an op that focuses on looong bottom times. Not THE most camera friendly op since they use small (6 person) fast boats but that translates to a shorter commute. Either way, I had no problems diving with a camera rig during my stay.

Take and use your wide angle setup for the fast current wall dives (usually the 1st dive of the day) and consider switching to a macro setup for a lot of the second dives.

Enjoy the trip, Cozumel is a wonderful place.

  5. I have heard great things about Aldora divers, too. I wanted to mention that I used 100 cubic foot tanks when diving with Scuba Du to increase bottom time. That is an option to consider, as well.
