Adding another arm segment

4 posts
  1. Now that I have some dives shooting with my SLR and the Tokina 10-17, I'm thinking about adding a new arm segment to both sides.

I'm using just one 8" segment on each side, with my P&S this was more than enough for wide angle, but now with the fish eye lens I must pull the strobe back in order to avoid backscatter but as the arm is in a diagonal now, it's like having smaller arms.

Adding an additional clamp to the configuration make me doubt, changing my current arms for something like a 12" arms I think is too much for close focus wide angle.

    So, this is my idea.

I'm thinking about adding a 5" section on each side, let the clamp A very tight and only move the clamps B and C underwater (I tend to move a lot my strobes underwater)

Do you think that this is a good idea? Do you see a problem with this? Do I need to practice more with only the 8" segments?

    Hi Andres,

I think you'll love adding a 5" to each side. It works really well for me when shooting big stuff. Very nice option to have.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Thanks Steve, I will get a pair of 5" arms.

  4. i have 8" and 6" sections and i think it works for almost everything although with truly wide i feel like i need to put the strobes out a little wider but for Macro and CFWA i think having the extra joint give you more flexibility when positioning your strobes.
