Attaching Loclines to Amphibico Question

7 posts
  1. Since I have decided to keep and use the Amphibico housing for our upcoming trip I picked up some LocLines from Backscatter to attach some video lights. The problem I am having is that the housing has a slide on setup for light attachments and it looks like it will need a special adapter to make the Loclines fit. Does anyone know where these adapters can be acquired?

Here is a photo of what I am talking about:

  2. What i did was- i took my housing to my local engineers work shop here in South Africa he measured the slots and cut two pieces of stainless steel that would fit in the slot. He then drilled and tapped a hole in the center of the stainless steel cuts to the same size as the little piece of metal in the bottom of the base adapter. He then opened up the hole in the housing itself so it was just wider than the hole tapped into the piece of stainless (i was sweating buckets at this point as he took a drill to my housing, but he did a excellent job! just needed opening up a tiny bit, so the bolt was a better fit).

He actually did all of this for free as the amount of metal needed is so small and it was just offcuts lying around.

So now you have your stainless steel adapter drilled and tapped ready to be fitted to a locline base adapter.

Now you need a (preferably) stainless bolt to attach your stainless adapter to your locline base adapter. i had trouble getting a imperial bolt in stainless steel in South Africa so i just got a handfull of steel ones and change it after a couple of dives.

Next, you need to modify your locline base adapter to fix directly to your stainless adapter sitting in the grooves of your housing. I unscrewed the bolt sitting in the locline base adapter to completely seperate the adapter into (approximately) 3 pieces. I threw away the spring and bottom section and just kept the piece with the 3 little circular notches on it and obviously the top piece. Slot these two pieces back together, take your stainless screw and just screw it down to your housing!

    It will be absolutely solid.

I hope my description is clear enough for you to make your own. Any questions just ask.

  3. I thought about doing something like you did but by the afternoon yesterday I just decided to return the Loclines and get the UltraLight adapters and arms that fit.

  4. ahh ok, which lights are you using?

  5. I am using a pair of Sola 1200's

  6. Backscatter didn't have the necessary T adapters?
