  1. Aquatech CG-5 for Canon G-5 , Any experience with it ?

    Hi guys,

I could not find any reviews on Aquatech housing for G-5 camera , it seems like everybody is using Ikelite one .

It looks to me that CG-5 is much smaller and compact with about the same specs .

I was wondering if anybody had any experience with it ?

Does external substrobe (Ikelite ) works good in this combination?

    Thank's alot. Dimitri

  2. SubStrobe with Manual Controller connected by a sync cord to Ikelite housing is the best combination............

  3. Thank's ,Ike .

Thank's I am considering that too. Di.

  4. I tested an Aquatech housing for two days. It is compact and an adapter ring on the front means you can easily ad an Inon wide angle lens or colour correction filter.

There are no bulkheads to connect strobes - have to use fibre optic.

Not all the camera's controls are available on the housing but most are. No trash button (who wants to waste time deleting photo underwater anyway). Also no access to the front toggle dial.

  5. This looks to a very interesting housing. However, closer inspection and further research revealed a number of issues that would affect me.

There is no delete button, but that's not critical. More serious is the lack of a control to activate Macro focus. But perhaps the biggest drawback to me is the lack of any control of the Main dial on the Canon G5. This is the dial that is used to set aperture and shutter speed values in Manual Mode, Av mode and TV mode. You can select the modes, just not the values. I think this would make it difficult to shoot manual flash underwater. You could set up the values topside, but you'll have to keep them for the duration of your dive.

It should be possible to store a couple of setups in the CS1 and CS2 spaces on the G5, and these could be accessed via the Mode dial underwater. But again, you're limited to two combinations, with no way to adjust for conditions once underwater. These seem like fairly serious limitations to an otherwise nice housing.

I've made these observations based on looking at my Canon 5, and at the housing photos and information on the Aquatech web site. The nice folks at Backscatter.com could offer nothing beyond what was on the Aquatech web site. Please make any corrections if the above information is wrong.

  6. Looks like you are correct in everything you mentioned .

Thank you ,guys , for your notes .It seems to me that nobody is really using this Nice-looking housing . I guess I am limited to Ikelite anyway .

If only they wouldn't make them so bulky .

    Thank's Dimitri

  7. Aquatech responded to my inquiry as follows: "You are correct in your observation that there is not a Main Dial control on our CG-5 Housing. This model was initially designed for Eastman Kodak as a specialty product and they did not want access to this control."

  8. We have sold two of these housings in the past week or so and the Aquatech guys were explaining to me that the housing was design for under direction from Disneyland, something tough, durable, easy access for download for the "wet" rides. The feedback we have had after purchasing the housing has been extremely favourable.
