Coral Reef Stamps
The USPS has recently released a "Pacific Coral Reef" pane of ten stamps. This a large pane measuring about 8.5 x 5.5 inches (22 x 14 cm). This is really a gorgeous pane, and the post offices around here seem to have a good supply.

BeautifUll but, where's the Queen's head?
You're supposed to stare at it for a couple of hours until Her Majesty's image materializes. It's a new kind of optical illusion. Try it.
No, can only see a turtle's head!
Ah yes, there it is... Suitably dressed as one would expect of one!
Looks like one damn small reef area. These stamps look really cool, on my way to the USPS tomorrow to find some....
I think it's a little spot on Hawaii that the dive boats missed!
Does anyone know if a portion goes to supporting coral reef conservation?

In this case, no. Each stamp costs 37 cents, so the pane costs $3.70. There are a few stamps that cost 45 cents, with the extra 8 cents going to support some cause (like breast cancer research).
Nice picture of the Queen. Do you have Prince Charles too?

I got some shots of him preparing to dive the Mary-Rose somewhere.
Well, how about an old Margaret Thatcher pin-up? It needs some symmetry.
Or an ex PA Snorkelling?
Just as long as Hillary doesn't show up!
I just noticed something else. The image I posted is on the USPS website. At the bottom of the pane are the words "A NATURAL WORLD THAT BELONGS TO NO-ONE." The pane that I got at the PO, however, says "NATURE OF AMERICA."
Don't know why they changed it.
That's because this one was purchased from the photo shop ![]()
The back of the set indicates that it depicts a reef near Guam. As soon as I finish working with wyland, I plan to swim around the entire island in search of this tropical utopia!
Too bad that the Napoleon has be decimated by spear fisherman who go out every night and take hundreds of pounds of reef fish. Turtle poachers have all but wiped out the green turtle here.
Just last week a fisherman whose boat broke loose and was rescued by the coast guard was arrested since they discovered a dead turtle in the recovered boat. he was hunting on a popular dive site! Who knows how many turtles are killed DAILY here since here is little or no enforcement!
Chris
A big thanks to Jim for sending me a copy of the full plate in the mail this morning: Nice Surprise, cheers Jim ![]()
