  1. Olympus C5050 or C5060?

    Hi

I do scuba-diving and I want to buy one digital camera.

One friend has one Olympus C-5050 Zoom and he takes very nice photos.

When I was prepared to buy the C-5050, the C-5060 Wide Zoom arrived to the market.

The C-5060 is a C-5050 upgrade. For this, the C-5060 is the natural choice, but, my friend tells me is better to buy the C-5050, essentially for the lens. He tells me the C-5060 needs more light because this camera has a F1.8-F8 lens and the C-5050 has a F.28-F8.0 lens.

The waters in Portugal don't have the same light like Red Sea or

    Bahamas,..., waters.

I'm a newbie in this area. For this, what camera I must buy to do

    scuba-diving?:

    -Olympus C5050 + PT015

    -Olympus C5060 + PT020

    - Fujifilm F700 (

    Thanks

    I apologize for my English

  2. I haven't seen anything yet that shows me the 5060 is a winner underwater. If I were buying again today, I would go with the 5050.

    This is solely my opinion!

  3. Digital cameras are evolving at a fast rate - the 5050 is last years model...

  4. I think the 5050 is better for underwater use also.

  5. If you have to buy now and don't want to take risks the 5050 wilkl be the better alternative.

If you can wait 1 or 2 Month, wait for the first experience reports on the 5060 and decide then.

  6. What in particular are you worried about?

It's a pity they couldn't keep the f/1.8 lens, but they put in a 28mm lens, interchangeable ports, overall faster performance, better battery life...

In terms of newer cameras I worry about when manufacturers keep increasing the pixel count without upgrading the optics and/or the sensor size. Going from 5050 to 5060 this is not the case.

Sure, the 5060 hasn’t proven itself yet – do you really think it won’t?

The PPO-02 seems to be a mistake. Don’t buy that!

  7. why all the hassle since the 8080 is coming out shortly!?!

And about the 5060 lens stars at 5.7mm wich is IMO compared to the 7.1mm of the 5050 the reason to go for the 5060

    Anyway good luck

    cheers

  8. I am VERY happy with my 5060 and Inon 180.
