Hi guys
Have any of you been diving in Iran? We are going to be there for a month during Ramadan and wondering if there is any possibility to dive there (Maybe Qeshm/Kish?) and what it's actually like!

Diving in Iran?

Hi Adam, I worked in Iran around 1990 and on a few occasions I dived around Bandar Imam Khomeini and Bandar Abbas. There were no facilities whatsoever... We rumaged in some old ammo boxes and found some rotting rubber which once purported to be live-supporting scuba kit. I was lucky and found a manual inflate ABLJ which has didn't leak too much... We jumped on board an old launch which had a Seafarer echo sounder and when we found a reef we dived it. I remember there was lots of life but generally low viz.
You'll find the divine around Kish Island to be better, certainly in terms of facilities as there are a couple of dive centres - Kish is a 'resort' and if flying in direct, Westerners do not need a visa.
I'd be very interested to know what you find 20 years since my last visit.
