  1. 10.5 mm stretch mark

Hi every one, I'm just back from Venezuela and did some u/w shot with the 10.5 mm Nikon fisheye, my verdict ! awesome lens for split shots and excelent as a fisheye but not too impressed with the defishing in Capture 4, there is some noticeable stretch mark sort of the kind you see when your nodal point alignement is totally off, if the foreground is plain you can get away with it, but forget about putting inportant info in the edges, It's hard to predict where the cut off will be in the finder and those stretch mark are really not that professional looking in the final result, anyway I included some shots if you care to pass your own judgments. I am not for one second regretting the purchase but the defishing feature is not a buying argument.

All shots taken with Nikon D100 in a Aquatica D100 housing with an 8 inches dome ( no extension rings or diopter ) and a dome shade ( a must in my humble opinion for this setup)

P.S. I am what one might call an Aquatica Staffer.

  2. No shots? I have a 10.5 myself - Aquatica S2 - so I'm really anxious to see some results. I won't get to use mine until April.

OOPS! I have shots taken with it but could'nt find the attachment method, so I have forwarded them to James Wiseman, hope he can tie them up to my post, meanwhile if somebody can explain how to attach photo, please drop me an e-mail at vizart@videotron.ca

  4. Hi Jean,

    For everyone's benefit:

Click on the button that says Post Reply down under here. Then look for an area that says "Add an Attachment" and click Browse. Find the file and click OK, then clock Add Attachment.

Press submit and you are good to go.

You were probably confused by the new "quick reply" box at the bottom of the screen. It's good for a fast "all text" reply, but doesn't have the attachment feature.

    Cheers

    James

  5. problems with 10.5

To those of you with this lens - have you noticed movement in the front element when you turn it over or gently shake it? I noticed this and returned it, but the replacement does the same thing!

  6. I think you'll find that the front bit is just a protector for the main optics

  7. Voila ze pictures from my 10.5mm

Sorry for the delay but alas here are the shot from my trip with the 10.5mmm

  8. Strech mark on 10.5mm

On the edge of the corrected picture you can see some stretch marks wich look like an innapropriate nodal point / dome alignement, I still love the lens and the fact that some subject can be defished when appropriate his and added bonus to me.

  9. The corner stretching will always be an issue - because you are always stretching the information captured by the camera in those areas. The only wat to avoid the effect is to crop the image tighter.

One solution when using this technique is to ensure that you have simple subject matter in the susecptable areas (e.g. blue water, white sand etc) to the stretching doesn't show.

  10. Also, try your splits in a vertical attitude.
