I was wondering if anyone has had any opportunity to test/use these new strobes since they are now "out"?

They don't seem to be available in the UK. The main agents keep moving the availability date on month by month. Now said to be May but don't hold your breath.

They are not out yet, but I'm hearing 3 weeks fairly firmly.
We have 2 coming for testing and are as curious as anyone to compare.

Ahh, sorry to "jump the gun." I had seen several dealers advertising them as in stock and thought they were being sold. My bad.
I am curious because it looks to me like S&S got the high GN (I know those numbers are not usually meaningful anyway) by using a fairly narrow beam angle and by the time one puts diffusers on to approximate the angle of, say, a Z-240, I don't know that the D1 is any more powerful than that strobe. But it may be...
Just speculating and curious. Time will tell.

I'm looking for the same info. Has anyone tried the Sea & Sea YS-D1s yet? Thoughts? How hard are they to get? Are they worth it?

hey guys,
I have a pair and so far so good. They are powerful recycle quick and really small.

Take a look at this comparative test:
Duration slightly less, angle narrower, but damn close to the ys-250 on the histogram.

I just bought two -D1s. I had two -01s before. I am much happier with the -D1s. I took them out on three boat dives last weekend. I think the added power of the -D1s made it much easier to take shots at a much further distance that I couldn't have done with the -01s obviously.

Just took delivery of 4 YS-D1's and will try them out next week in the Philippines. Cosmetically, I like the matte finish on the plastic, gone is the awkward mounting of the diffusers on the YS110a, the included 1" ball with o-ring is a nice touch. Made in Japan (YS-D1) vs China (YS110a).
Can't wait to get them in the water for both WA and Macro testing.
