I can possibly go for a week b/t the 17th and the 3rd of June in search of whale sharks. I may be open to other Must see/shoot critters.
Can anyone suggest an operator that has a small number of clients that may be geared towards photographers. I've seen some hits on the searches, but an looking to get more info.
Thanks so much,
Hi Bob,
On land, I like Holbox better. Really cool little island community that makes for an excellent couple of days hanging out. In cliched terms, it's what the Yucatan was like 10 years ago.
If all you care about is sharks, however, I'd say Mujeres. The water is bluer on that side and makes for better pics.
No info on an operator that might be better for photographers. Most of the boats are a bit "cattle". When I was there I rented a private boat for me and my wife to film and shoot from.
Good luck.
For photos the water quality is better on the Isla Mujeres side. But the boats are touristy for the most part and not geared for photographers. They go out, spend an hour or so with the whale sharks and return either directly to Cancun or stop off at the north end of Isla Mujeres for some ceviche and beer.
We have been going yearly and hire a private boat, this allows us to spend the day swimming with whale sharks. We have a good friend, Eduardo, who sets up our diving and whale sharks. I highly recommend him, look at: www.deeplifedivers.com
