  1. Sigma 105 macro with teleconverters

Anyone know if any of the teleconverters will work with the Sigma 105 macro? I called Sigma, they said their tc's won't work with it. I e-mailed Tamron. They didn't want to comment on other manufacturer lenses.

Someone mentioned the Tamron 1.4x tc works on the 105, but image quality declined adequate enought that he wouldn't recommend that combination.

Let me know what camera body you use and I will test the combination for you, I work in a camera store and have everything in stock so I'll be happy to check it out for you. also make shure your housing manufacture will accomodate this lens / teleconverter combo.

P.S. I'm off work for the next two days, so don't worry about the delay it's not because I forgot you.

  3. Thanks for the offer! :D I've found my answer. I believe the Canon teleconverters only work with L glass. The three Kenko teleconverters, 1.4x, 2x, and 3x will work with that lens. From the reviews I read, the 1.4x converter is respectable converter, and one I can readily use topside as well.

Do you have any first-hand experience, knowledge, or opinions about Kenko teleconverters? :?:

  4. No I don't but, the Tamron SP pro series has a better reputation (the 2x has 7 glass elements and the 1,4x has 5 glass elements+ good coating)

  5. I think that Kenko has an equivalent to the Tamron SP's don't they? In any event, I use the Tamron SP 1.4x and 2.0x and like them. I don't have the Sigma 105 though.

  6. An interesting comment I found on one of the review boards regarding the Kenko and Tamron 2x converters, stated that Kenko made the 2x 7 element converter for Tamron. I noted they're both 7 element converters.

  7. make sense, the external construction at least seem to be of the same origin.

  8. Canon teleconverters will work on officially unsupported lenses, but you might have to do some tweaking. For example, in order to use the Canon 2X II teleconverter with the 100mm USM macro lens, I have to put a EF12 extension tube between the TC and the lens. Otherwise, it simply will not fit, physically.
