Information needed about SLR Housings

2 posts
  1. I have a question for who ever ? I usually make all my own housings but I never made one for a

SLR type camera. I have on order a Fuji S2 Pro and I will be making one for it. Since I wear

eye glasses its difficult for me to see through those little view finders. That’s why my last SLR

was a Nikon F3 high eye point. To my surprise magnifiers don’t work at all. The only thing

I found so fare that seams to work is a very small .42 x wide angle lens mounted backwards

against the view finder. Who has a SLR housing and what are you using to see threw your

finder? Can you see well underwater with it, and can you see all the information on the screen?

    Thanks,

    Marc

  2. Marc, I have a Subal housing for a F100 film camera. I have no problem seeing through the viewfinder without any special magnifier. The housing does have a magnifier in but I believe that it is to let you see the entire viewfinder, not to bring it into focus. Focusing on the image created by an SLR is very different from focusing on a LCD screen. I have no more trouble focusing the camera in it's housing than I do focusing the camera on land. If you can focus an SLR and see a sharp image you should be able to focus a digital SLR.

The LCD screen is about the most difficult thing you could focus on. You have to get very close to it and the image quality is very poor. If I understand the optics of an SLR you are looking at a focused image set at -0.75 diopters. I would be interested to know if have trouble seeing the image. Many older photographers like to use autofocus as they have difficulty telling if the image is in sharp focus but I have never had one complain about not being able to see the image.
