Beautiful work! I like some of the B&W shots the best. Looks like you had great weather / visibility.
Makes me want to go back again. hmmmmm, maybe in 2005...

Nice work! It looks like the 300D is a winner. What lenses did you use?

Larry, I used three lenses during the trip. I have the kit lens, which is surprisingly good, the Sigma 14mm f2.8, and the Canon 50mm compact macro. All of these lenses have their place and I don't forsee shopping for any others soon.

Beautiful shots!!! Congrats!
How did you accomplish those "black background" shots of the soft corals with the 300D. I thought the neccessary very short shutter times aren´t possible with this camera... but maybe I missunderstood the technique....

Really nice stuff in there Jay, I enjoyed it immensely. One thing I noted: in the Wrecks and Artifacts and Favorites galleries it appears that there is a mismatch between the thumbnail and the larger image for image number 73. The thumbnails show a diver in the upper left corner, the larger version has the diver close to the bow railing of the wreck.
Personal favorite of the shots I have looked at closely is the soft coral/closed anemone/anemone fish shot, and it is not just because it looks like a pair of buttocks

You can get a black background with either a fast shutter or small aperture, or a combination of both...basically anything that underexposes the background. If you use a small aperture you also need proportionally more strobe.
FWIW, the 1/200s sync limit is somewhat of a problem, especially when the background is really bright. There were shots that I simply could not take because of it.

Hi Jay,
Check the posts here by other D-Rebel owners. Apparently you can use the "high speed sync" trick with this camera to get shutter speeds with flash up to 1/250th or maybe 1/300th.
Cheers
James
