In the right place at the right time, with a NikV, 20 mm lens, Sekonic meter, no strobe (Malpelo Island, Summer 2003). Silkies on parade, Fathoms No. 9, two-page spread p. 44-45. But they printed it too dark!

Congratulations, Chris!
My first published UW image was in Fathoms Issue #1, in an article by David Breitigam on digital photography. My image was used to show the results of taking a 3MP consumer camera underwater. State of the art! ![]()
Congats, Very good shot!
Btw, how you got to Malpelo? I understood that is possible only at combine live aboard with Cocos.
Congratulations, Chris! Very nice photo.

I went (with Fathoms principals Bret Gilliam and Fred Garth) on the Seahunter; it was a "double" to Malpelo and Cocos. Both sites were great (it was my second trip to Cocos), but Malpelo was out of this world. The Seahunter is a very fine boat with an incredible crew and excellent dive skiffs.
On the *single* dive on which the silkies swarmed, we also saw dolphins, many hammerheads and a whale shark. Other highlights included spawning pompanos, mating and hunting whitetips (not at the same time), jacks jacks jacks, tuna, hammers hammers, hammers, eels eels eels, batfish, silvertips, galapagos sharks ... fewer octopi compared to last time at Alcyone and Amigos ...
I immediately put a deposit down to return in summer 2005, and that trip (all rebreathers) is already sold out!
