Looking for video camera and housing to hire

15 posts
  1. Hello,

I'm looking for a video camera and housing to hire for a project I'm working on in a couple of weeks.

I'm looking for a camera that shoots progressive. It must have a global shutter i.e. CCD sensor and shoots in HD or HDV. I'm looking to hire for a week from the 16th July in Cheltenham. Unfortunately I only have an extremely tight budget, as it is a self-funded art-based project, which I had originally planned to shoot with my own kit, which is now not possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks

    Emma

  2. Unless you are very familiar and experienced with both the camcorder and the housing and the lights no matter what you rent, you will probably not get the quality of footage that you wanted. It would be far wiser to hire someone to shoot the footage for you who has experience with the gear they own. It is not as simple as just getting a cam and housing and dropping in the water and filming away. There are just too many factors to consider and learn to list here.

  3. I've been trying to help Emma out with this over the last few weeks, a simple request is actually quite tough. Not ony does the camera need to offer a global shutter capable of shooting HDV/HD res in progressive (which knocks out the simple choice of the two a penny Z1), the camera would also need to offer full manual control of exposure, gain and focus.

Any one with any ideas on a camera that may fit the bill, we'd love to hear.

And Steve, wise words but thoroughly misplaced, Emma has heaps of experience and ability with underwater imagery ;) She's not known on the forums, I'm more than happy to vouch for her for anyone that's prepared to help out (not that I'm that well known on WetPixel either, but I think enough in the UK know who I am :) )

    Cheers

  4. I have to ask why does it 'have' to be a global shutter/CCD camera? If it absolutely must meet that spec then what about the HVX200? (sorry don't know any UK owners but there must be one out there somewhere with a housing)

    Cheers, Simon

  5. Hi Simon, hope you're well, thanks for you help

The application definitely requires global shutter, progressive, it's not for me to go into details though. The HVX-200 would certainly fit the bill, although the only owner I know is in the wrong hemisphere.

The consumer based Panasonic HDC-SD9 would also do the trick, although the only housings I can find seem to be fully auto, Emma will need to be running manual across exposure, colour balance and focus.

  6. Give Raffa a shout he is Canaries and has a Panny, short flight. Everyone else I know in Europe is on Ex1's, Red's or DSLR's

  7. Have an hvx 200 & gates housing and Super wide dome port from fathom imaging available from Baja, mexico or San Diego.

  10. If it's a extremely tight budget then I would just shoot it with the FX1/Z1, drop it in a 1920/1080 25p timeline, add a sharpness filter and render out a 1920/1080 25p H.264 or MPEG2 file and no one would be the wiser :-)

Now if the budget is there then yes shoot with a true 1920/1080 25p camera :-)

Cheating it isn't an option, there is a reason why we need progressive ;)
