Dual Sync Cord or Master-Slave?

3 posts
  1. Personally, I prefer dual synch cords.

Seems like just one less thing to have to get pointed in the right direction...

However, the new Ikelite rig, with the slaves on fixed posts, below the first arm joint, is really good.

The advantages of using optical slaves are: 1 less hole/connector in housing, to set up. You can remove the strobe/arm/slave from the housing, and hold it by hand, to get greater range of lighting angles.

  2. I wanted to see which method of flash sync is preferred by those using 2 strobes.

Dual sync cord with both strobes in TTL? Or single sync cord with one strobe in TTL and one strobe in TTL slave.

OR, two strobes - one with TTL sync cord and the other in manual Slave mode.

    Cheers

  3. I have shot (with a housed 35mm SLR) both ways for years. Both work well. The only disadvantage to the slave are two. One, If one strobe dosen't work

you canstill shoot if both strobes are hard wired. Two, with the slave sensor you are always wondering if the second strobe went off. Still I use Ikelite slave sensors a lot for my second strobe.
