  1. Hi,

Have any one seen a Nikon D100 Housing? I just pick up the camera and been playing around with it for an hour. I can't seem to find anyone with a ready D100 housing. I know Amphibico and Aquatica announce it but the web site do not meation anything about it.

If anyone have any info could you please forward it me.

    Thanks

  2. just want to add this.

  3. I see where the Photo issue of SD mag has a picture of an Aquatica housing for the 100.

  4. Wow, thanks Allen and Inuzuka!!!! I've been looking at this information everywhere!!!

My first thoughts - it looks like an Ikelite housing...:-) I wonder if it will be 2x the price though... (Smiley face again).

I was hoping for an aluminum housing like the NX-80 but no dice. Then again, maybe it makes sense to buy a "cheaper" housing for a DSLR because only god knows if Nikon will change the form factor next time they release a DSLR. Who knows...they kept the same body for the D1/D1X so we can only hope that the D100/D??? will have the same body and controls.

It looks like you'll be able to put a good sized dome port on that Sea and Sea housing. I like that! The 14mm lens is going to need it.

  5. James,

You're welcome. Based on the picture it looks like the housing design is based on their aluminum housing. Noticed the shape and contour of the housing. Also, it looks to me that Sea and Sea will be using some of their aluminum housing parts like the shutter lever, manual zoom control knob on the left side and sync port and triple buckle enclosure.

I've also seen the new Sea and Sea D100,D30 and D60 housing with a colored front body and clear back. I'll post the picture when I get a chance.

  6. If you look at the picture of the Aquatica AD100 on page 100 of the Skin Diver photo annual - It looks a lot like the Aquatica F100 housing for the F100 film camera. I wonder if they are going to use the same housing body...interesting.

There sure are a lot of 100's in this post, eh?

  7. I had the same thought when looking at the S & S housing. It looks like they duplicated the body of their F100 housing in polycarbonate. Makes sense as they can get the housing out quicker (before the camera is obsolete) and it would be easier to modify for different cameras. It might be cheaper than an aluminum housing though I wouldn't hold my breath on that. I think I would wait to see what Ike comes out with as he as been building plastic housings for years and has to be the expert on such housings. The CP5000 housing is a work of art. If Ike follows that by design by coming out with a new size case that just fits the camera and uses the type of controls that he did on the 5000 housing then that would be the housing to beat as regards to cost, function, and early avalibity. Especalliy if he designs some new streamlined handles and had an adaptor so that I could use my Subal 9" dome port.

  8. Hi Allen,

Now that I have a good idea of the differences between the Fuji S2 and the D100, I went back and looked at the pictures of the demo housing.

The main physical differences between the two cameras is that the S2 is a little taller to accomodate the batteries in the bottom. The buttons on the back of the cameras are different, but the buttons on the top and front are the same.

It looks to me like there is room in the Sea and Sea housing for the S2 - because there is a little clear "pedestal tray" in there so that they can use the same housing for the D30/60 and the D100.

Perhaps Sea and Sea could do a different pedestal and a different back, and sell the housing for the S2 as well.

With such little information, one can only hope.

  9. oooooopssss forgot to login.

  10. I also noticed even if you were able to modify the pedestal, the alignment of the camera will also be affected thus making it difficult to use the zoom control, shutter lever as well as the top controls.

  11. Hi Allen,

What I'm thinking is that the position of the TOP of the camera won't change. So the shutter, command dials, AE-Lock buttons, etc., will still be in the same physical location in space.

However, the S2 has about an extra 3/4 inch on the bottom of the camera so if Sea and Sea could shrink the size of that pedestal, it might fit.

You can see that's exactly what they did for the D60 vs the D100. In the picture you posted, you can see that the D60 is "way up there" in the housing on a tall pedestal. The D100 has a bit more meat on the bottom, so the pedestal is shorter. Make sens?

Obviously, the housing backs are different. I wonder if they can make a back for the S2.

I'm telling you (in my honest opinion) that I think the housing folks are "backing the wrong horse here" designing housings for the D100 and NOT the S2. There's no TTL with the D100.

IMO, if Ike is the only one w/ a housing for the S2 - he's going to be selling a lot of housings.

    Cheers

  12. James,

I know exactly what you're thinking and you're right about the position of the top control except for the shutter lever but if you shave the height of the pedestal 3/4 inch it will affect the control top buttons. The control button shaft might not reach the camera's control. For short, if you decrease the height of the pedestal, the gap inside of the housing on top of the camera will increase and if that happens, those control on top of the housing will loose contact with the camera's top control dial. Does that make sense?

It's still early to predict if Sea and Sea Japan will eventually design a housing for the Fuji S2 Pro. Keep your fingers crossed.
