DSLR underwater video compilation of trip to Bali, Indonesia. May 2012.

Filmed with Canon 7D, Sigma 10mm (Magic Filter) lens in Nauticam housing. Natural light.

    Video include three parts.

    1. Permuteran Bay - BioRock Project at Taman Sari Resort

    2. USAT Liberty Ship wreck, Tulamben

    3. Nusa Penida Island

You'll see lot of horrible corner performance, I couldn't use small aperture because of vis & weather and 4' (100mm) mini dome was too small for WA.

I want to re-shoot alll these on 5D Mark III with big dome. smile.png

    Hope you enjoy it.

  2. The corner performance wasn't that bad but some of the shots, the fisheye distortion was distracting for me. What color profile did you use? Some of the broad latitude shots seemed to blown highlights on the water surface to preserve exposure on the reef/fish? Did you do that in camera or post? I've shot with the 7D and there's enough latitude in the sensor (using Prolost or Marvell or even Cinestyle (under ISO320)). I've found filters kill latitude significantly.

Here's my snap from the video shot with 5D2 with 15mm Fisheye and Prolost, colored in CS6 no filter:

  3. Thanks for the input Drew,

All footage in this video is raw except some manta scene (reduced red channel in post editing) and all with Lanscape picture style. I couldn't use flat style because I was shooting for tv production and they don't do color grading.

btw, I'm planning to shoot 16-35mm II behind 6.5' dome. Do I need diopter for better corner?

  4. Some great shots, looks really saturated colour wise. Have you tried the Tokina 10-17mm allows a far amount of variation of shots with just one lens

  5. I've tried it behind a 6" and it's not good below f13@16-18mm. Using a +4 diopter gives the FOV of 20mm anyways so I say just shoot @ 20-21mm to be on the safe side, @ f8 or above and you won't need a diopter for my eyes.

Quite a few people like the landscape profile blue shift but the curve is too strong and restricts latitude. Try using Picture Styles editor to tame the S-curve/contrast in landscape.

  6. Thanks Drew and Jon for advise.

  7. Where did you video the mantas? Looks very similar to Manta Point on Nusa Lembongan...amazing place.

  8. Where did you video the mantas? Looks very similar to Manta Point on Nusa Lembongan...amazing place.

It was Nusa Penida but not old manta point, the new dive site call "manta bay".

I'm not sure it's accurate but please check the blue marker on the this map.

  9. Thanks...that's interesting. I want to check out some new manta spots on my next trip. Manta Point is great but getting too crowded for my liking. :)
