selling used gear -- advice?

4 posts
  1. I hope this isn't too OT, but has anyone had any luck selling used u/w photo gear, be it on Ebay, or in the classifieds of a forum like this?

I've had very good experiences selling used electronics on Ebay, but there doesn't seem to be much of a presence there for things like u/w housings. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  2. At the scuba show they said today that due to the rapid onset of digital that the bottom had fallen out of the used market for film cameras. Said that rather than trying to sell them you are better off just using them till they flood. Same thing with last years digital cameras and their housings as they are already obsolete. Sorry, I didn't like hearing this either.

  3. I don't know about the bottom dropping out. It depends on the camera. I was just checking on EBay for completed auctions, which can give you an idea of what stuff has been going for. MMII are selling ok, as are MX10s. But the cheap cameras have flooded the market. You aren't going to get anywhere near what you paid, but if it's a good system, is popular, and priced to sell, you'll get something like half or a little less. Which is reasonable.

But backups have their value and film has it's appeal.

  4. On Ebay there is still lots of auctions offering housings and cameras.

I think I will have to stick to my Nikonos RS for a few more years. The digital arena is still new and I been chasing it for the last eight months and I seem to be going no where. The cameras seem to be outdated before the housings even leave the R&D workshop. I have just got a Nikon D100 and there seem to be not a housing is sight.

    sigh...
