Deep photo with Canon 5D MKIII in Aquatica housing

  1. Image of one of HMS CARINTHIA'S six-inch guns. The CARINTHIA was a liner lost in WWII and now rests in 370 feet of water off Ireland. Due to this year's plankton bloom, there is absolutely no ambient light at depth (usually really nice light, so I am told). This was only my second time playing with the camera, so I am still learning how to use it coming from the original 5D, so I did not get the image quality I would have liked. The camera worked at depth though the on/off and photo/video switches are a little sticky from pressure, and the magnetic switches of SOLA 1200 lights tended to have a mind of their own (granted it is well past their rated depth!).

  2. Something different!!! You would not find me down there....

Eerie looking place....good to see you gear survived the torture!

  3. Maybe you need to consider the conversion spring kit from Aquatica.

    Bring us more deep photos!!!

I have the deep conversion kit installed. Buttons seemed to work fine but the switches were hard to turn - not sure if they modify these on the housing for increased depth.

  5. Well if they are claiming that the housing can go that deep, I'd think that they'd have tested it at that depth. Perhaps you should bring it up to your dealer.

  6. Here is another shot from the CARINTHIA dive...

  7. Never having taken photographs beyond 55m, I'm well impressed, both by your skill and the performance of your system. My old Anthis housing had to be preset at about 40m because so many of the controls locked up by 45m!

PS Why is the AP rebreather silver?

  8. PS Why is the AP rebreather silver?

A couple of the guys have shot video for documentaries and the standard yellow case of the AP rebreather throws off a yellow halo in certain situations, so they painted them silver to avoid that issue. There is probably a technical term for this issue (also happens sometimes with white rebreather tanks), but not sure what it is...

    Cheers,

    Mike

  9. Thanks for sharing. it's cool to see what kind of images others are getting from these depths. Sounds like we're all having similar issues past 100m.
