  1. Another DS-125 question!

    Hello folks!

I'm a happy new owner of two ds-125's with manual controllers.

They're great: fast, powerful and the pilot light is super.

I have a question which is maybe classic and answered before:

If I have them both connected (in the two connectors) and I turn one off, the other is not firing! Any idea??

As suggested I masked one of the pins in the camera hotshoe( the top right pin). is this the fault?

    thanks for the help!

  2. With most cameras and an Ikelite sync cord, if you are using a dual cord, then one is the "primary" strobe and one is the "secondary." You can't turn off the primary strobe, or the secondary one won't fire. It's because of the sync cord wiring. Just look on the cord for a red band - which I believe is the secondary.

So just make sure to connect your strobes so that the secondary one is the one you usually turn off - no need to mess with masking or anything like that.

  4. My Subal does the same thing. I think it must be something in the camera's circuitry that produces this. It dosen't seem to matter which strobe you turn off.

  5. another solution I tried is to use one strobe as slave as the manual controller has a sensor.

  6. Most of my shots have been with the manual controller hooked up to the camera and housing and a second strobe with just the remote TTL sensor attached to it. In this combo the second strobe will mimic the power of the strobe hooked up to the camera. You can get ratioed lighting by varying the distance of the strobe to camera. You only have to turn the dial for one strobe this way. Lately I have been using two manual controllers. Though you have two dials to turn it seems to give a little more control over power output of each strobe.

The disadvantage of hooking both strobes the housing is as per your initial post. If either strobe fails you will not be able to fire either strobe. If only one is hooked up to the housing you only have to worry about that strobe failing.
