does anyone have the Subal SB80DX housing? I have just bought a SB800 (ittl) and have been comparing the measurements and layouts of the SB80DX and SB800 (from the web, I have not had chance to visit a Nikon dealer yet) and they seem to be, near as damn it, the same measurements with a tolerance of about 0.1 inch.
I asked Subal if they thought the SB800 would work in the SB80dx housing but no reply yet.
Does anyone know why this specifically would not work - or have any other views on the subject?
Many Thanks!
paul
My "guess" is that it will fit inside the housing. Whether the buttons will all be accessible is another story.
But why would you really need the buttons anyhow? Just set the sleep mode and the flash zooming mode before the dive.

Just got word from Subal that it will be released shortly
What will be released? Does this mean that everyone that bought the SB80 case has to get a NEW case ($$$) for the SB800? Or will the SB800 fit in the SB80 case? (I'm guessing it will.)
Cheers

HI, I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT STROBE SET UP TO GET TO GO WITH A HOUSING FOR THE D100. HOW WOULD THE SB800 STROBE COMPARE TO USING A DS125 OR YS90? I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT WOULD GIVE GREAT TTL, BUT IS THERE A WAY YOU CAN DO MANUAL WHEN THE TTL IS NOT LIGHTING LIKE I WANT IT TO? I SUPPOSE ONE COULD JUST USE EXPOSURE COMPENSATION?

If the buttons on the flash are accessible, you can fire it in manual or "auto" mode (where you just tell it what aperture you are shooting at.
You can use an SB80 or 28 DX with the D100, you don't need the newer 800 - but it's probably worth buying.

Answer from Subal :
Unfortunately the strobes are not exactly the same and it is not the same housing. The front part of the SN80D housing can be used if the support frame is remachined. The lid for the strobecase is different.
