Reef Life of the Andaman - THE WHOLE THING

  1. I decided to release my 116-minute documentary about the marine life of Thailand and Burma in its entirety on YouTube.

This was a real labour of love for me, and represents a pretty big chunk of my life, so I thought I'd give it its own thread rather than tacking it to the end of my thread about the series. I hope that's OK.

Feel free to share and embed it anywhere.

It looks best at 720p, and there are a number of closed caption options under the CC button including the names of all the species and dive sites.

    Enjoy!

  6. As a proud owner of the 'original DVD version' (wow that sounds a bit retro eh??) I can honestly say that watching 'Reef Life' inspired me hugely when I was first finding my fins filming underwater. Huge congrats Nick. Very well done indeed! :)

    Cheers, Simon

  7. Great work Nick, what a massive effort. I think you did a great job on the voice over, not an easy thing to do well. Congrats

  8. A beautiful production Nick, great narration also....I linked it in FB.

Very charitable of you to put it up on utube, might get more people interested in marine environment.

  9. Hey great Nick stuff , how long that take to upload to YouTube..

Now you have to go out and shoot it all 16.9 now. :-)

  10. Thanks everyone :)

Jonny, I was thinking seriously about getting a professional voiceover done but it gets expensive for a 2 hour job, and I envisaged a number of re-takes because of the amount of "technical" content. In hindsight it would have been nice to alternate a female voice with mine, as I know it gets a bit much after a while.

Wags, the upload took about 30 hours. It was 10.2GB. The video was a scheduled upload, and unfortunately it went live when YouTube was having a bit of a glitch, and it never reached my subscribers' feeds. So after a very slow 50 views I deleted it and uploaded the whole thing again, for another 30 hours!

Got a big archive of 16:9 HDV from the Andaman Sea already, which will find its way out in various projects, but I don't think I'll release anything on this scale again.

  11. Huge project ideed!

    Thanks for sharing
