Little Green Shrimp in Lembeh, supermacro video.

  1. Here is a short video i shot yesterday of the 'Little Green Shrimp.' It was shot here in Lembeh using both the Canon 7D and the Canon 5Dmk3 cameras in Nauticam housings.

On the 5Dmk3 i used the Canon MP-E 65mm lens set at 4x, and on the 7D i used the 100mmL with stacked 5x and 10x Subsee Dioptres.

It was, for me, and interesting comparison between the two methods. the MP-E 65 get's built up as an amazing lens but very few take it underwater, and after shooting this i think for the average holiday makers its not worth taking underwater - might as well stack 2 diopters and have more flexibility for almost the same image quality.

Of course this isnt apples to apples as i would need two of the same camera for that, I will try the MP-E on the 7D soon!

  2. Cool stuff, first time I've seen footage from a submerged MP-E 65mm just need to find a manufacturer who can build a telescopic front port and it would offer a greater range of options. Nice to see it used though, cool footage.

  3. Nice Simon,

So which part is from MP-E?

    btw, I vomited after dive with MP-E 65mm on 7D. :-p

  4. Awesome video, Simon. That must have been difficult to capture.

  5. Thanks guys,

It was my first try with it. Very hard to light. However i think it does have a purpose for someone like me who lives in a good macro area. However for a holiday diver to potentially waste a dive using it, i dont think it's worth it.

It's a bit like the Inon Bug Eye lens... Looks cool but as soon as you buy one you realise the limitations very quickly!

A telescopic port would need to have some kind of pressure equalization system for the changing volume. Nauticam are desiginging something for it and i should hopefully be testing it soon :D

  6. ooo... good job on the Titling sir...

So, the close up with the eyeball, is that the MP or the stacked diopters? or a crop from one of them? :P

EJ: puked due to motion or whiskey?

  7. EJ: puked due to motion or whiskey?

Because of that lens but might be bintang too. ;)

  8. The MP-E was used for the shots with the same composition as the thumbnail, I forgot to say so earlier.

I'm on family time for the next couple of days but after that i'll be hunting for other tiny stuff.

  9. Wow is all I can say. Very steady for the amount of distance you had to be from it.

Hey Mark/Cam Diver...how is your housing for the Black Magic Cam coming along? Any test footage yet?

  10. Hey Mark/Cam Diver...how is your housing for the Black Magic Cam coming along? Any test footage yet?

    Steve

Hi Steve, will start a relevant thread for that in the surf imaging section when I have news. Some developments on the housing side of things.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  11. Mark, Do you have an idea regarding how long a flight from Manila to Bali would be? Will be in Anilao from 2/23-3/3 and was thinking of popping over to Bali for a couple of days.

    steve

  12. Hi Steve, have never made that trip so can't really say. Might be better to ask in the Dive Destination and Travel segment of the forum.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  13. Manila - Jakarta - Bali or Manila - Singapore - Bali. I belive can be done in one day. Try Silkair for via Singapore. Via Jakarta will involve Cebu Pacific and then Lion air.

  14. Nice video Simon!

Next time I am in Lembeh you will have to find one of those for me. :)
