HELP!! Which Strobe??

  1. HELP!! Which Strobe??

I have a Oly C750 UZ in a PT-018 housing, plus an Epoque wide angle lens. I am now looking at the options, makes & models of a strobe set up.

I need an simple set up (as I am a dweeb  ) and have had a suggestion made that I should consider two video lights instead of a strobe, or one strobe one video light. My camera does not have a "focus beam" for night shots or shooting in dark places. I have never used an external flash set-up before so the easier the better. I am lost with which brand to purchase?? Inon, Ikelite, Epoque??? It is all so confusing. :?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Blaze

  2. Hi Blaze,

The Inon strobes come highly recommended. I use an Inon D-180 myself and it is small, powerful and easy to use.

I also use a Ikelite SS200 strobe and it is a really great strobe so I'm sure their digital strobes are great as well but haven't used them. (Not really fond of the extra controllers).

For a much better comparison of strobes:

    Good Luck

  4. Hi lidde,

Do you know the difference between D180S and D180?

    Thank you,

  5. Yes, I believe so.

The D-180 has a full guiding light (bulb) while the D-180S only has two led lights (bright dots). The D-180 has 4 manual settings for strobe output together with External Auto Mode, while the D-180S only has the External Auto Mode.

Apart from that I believe the two strobes are identical.

    /Stefan
