Wide Angle Lens w/ Oly 4040 : Initial Settings?

  1. Wide Angle Lens w/ Oly 4040 : Initial Settings?

I finally bought a wide angle lens for my trip next week to Cozumel. I would like to lessen the learning curve, and I hope that some of you experts can help. ( I have an Oly 4040 in an Ike box)

What settings do you like to start with when you go down w/ your WA lens?

Is there a website or a posting that could help with "starting settings" for WA using an OLY?

Does anyone have any hints for me?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Cris

  2. Your mileage may vary, but when I used a 4040 in a Tetra housing with the wide-angle lens, I got my best results when putting the camera in macro mode... yes, macro mode... even for "regular" wide angle shots (e.g., wrecks, reef scenes, large pelagics, etc.)

I don't know why it worked, but it did, and I got great results.

Give it a shot and see how it works with your lens.

  3. I too have a wal and an Ikelite 6130.1 housing for my Oly 4040. I have found it necessary to take a simple step in order to avoid the on board flash from leaking it's output onto the right edge of your image.

    The problem:

The standard Ikelite plastic deflector is capable of blocking the onboard strobe's angle of coverage with respect to the Olympus' standard lens' field of view. But when a wide angle conversion lens is attached to the port ring on the housing, light from the Oly strobe which otherwise harmlessly escapes out the side of the box is now captured in the newly expanded field of view that the wide angle lens captures.

    Solution:

I applied small strips of black electrical tape to completely block the front face of the housing. I also applied one inch of black electrical tape on both the interior left and right walls. This procedure still allows light emitted from the on board flash to emanate upwards to be detected by either the Manual Controller or TTL sensor.
