  1. Light &Motion ROC

Im a little confused here...Could someone please explaain to me exactly wht the ROC system is on the L&M housings?. How does it differ from trueTTL? Is better..worse....as good as...does it have the same limitiations as trueTTL? I know it comes at a big price. Just wondering if it is worth it or not. Thanks for any input.

  2. ROC started as a way of providing 12 manual strobe power settings on any TTL compatible strobe with the Titan E20. That did not do TTL.

It was also used on the Tetra5000, but did not make have any TTL function with that camera. The T5k used the Coolpix's conventional TTL signal, and also provided 12 manual power settings.

The Tetra 5050 provides Preflash TTL, and 12 manual power settings. Since nobody but Ikelite can understand the electrical TTL signals coming out of the Olympus hotshoe, Light & Motion put a slave sensor inside the housing that forced the external strobes, via some electrical voodoo, to fire for the exact same duration on both the pre and exposure flashes as the camera's internal flash. Since the output is proportional, the TTL system works every bit as well as Olympus' on ttl system does, even though it is not communicating via the camera's hotshoe.

Oh, yeah, it also does 12 manual power settings, too.

  3. Let me get this straight.....so what you are telling me is that it will do TTL...only the via a sensor in the housing versus the hotshoe. Correct me if Im wrong...Thanks

  4. You got it straight...
