Warming filter for Inon strobes

  1. Warming filter for Inon strobes

    Disclaimer: I'm a filter newbie...

I've always liked the warm (4800K) color temperature of my Ikelite strobes (SS200 and DS125), even for macro. In contrast, when using my Inon Z220 strobes, my images look noticeably bluer/colder. They are 5500K. I was thinking of trying some warming filters with the Inons to bring them to a similar color temperature to my Ikelite strobes for macro. Looking at Craig's article, it looks like the difference in mireds between those two color temps is about 26, which would make the 81B warming filter a reasonable one to try. Am I in the ballpark? How much light do I give up with this filter?

I'm planning to do the wide angle experiment with magenta and green filters for lens/strobes as Craig has done, but I thought as long as I was at it, perhaps this is an experiment with macro I can try as well.

  2. An 81B or 81C would be right if you want to try this. MCD is selling the modified Cokin holders and they look inexpensive. I use the Lee 100mm holders but you can also screw on a Lee 72mm holder ring and use a conventional Lee holder with it (they can be quickly removed then). The Lee filters are more costly than the Cokin ones, though.

  3. Thanks. I have ordered a pair of the MCD holders, and the Cokin filters are inexpensive too, which makes experiments like this much easier to try.

  4. When you order from MCD, please be sure to let them know you saw the product on Wetpixel. :)
