Magic Filter to a Nikon 60mm Macro

6 posts
  1. I was reading Alex's Magic Filter website and didn't find anything specific enough to know what the recommendation is to attach a Magic filter to a Nikon 60mm G lens. I haven't pulled out my Nauticam and port with my D600 yet to see if I can use a screw on lens protector and just attach a gel filter to that in lieu of trying to rear mount the gel. Not sure if the lens will hit the port with that screw on filter.

Any suggestions as to whether my idea will work or how to attach a gel filter to the rear of the lens?

  2. Magic filters are used with ambient light. In almost all cases, a 60mm is used for macro work - which requires strobe(s). I have been on several workshops with Alex and I have never seen him do this with his Magic Filters - but that does not mean it has not been tried.

Just my small 2 cents worth of knowledge on the topic - Pam

  3. Thanks, Pam. I get that. I have some macro ideas I want to try in Fiji in very shallow water with video on my D600. That's why I am asking.

  4. try the 10.5 one, its a small square one, and then use some tape to fit it as a rear filter, thats what people were doing with the 10-17 that doesn't have a rear mount.

  5. That's nice, Alex. Along the lines of what I want to do.
