Epoque EL-1000 light
-
Anyone out there with any experience of the Epoque EL-1000 A-105 Video light?I haven't found any useful reviews on it yet. From the data it seems to be a light that fits my needs and budget, but I want to have response from someone with some real experience from it./ Sven

Hi Sven,
it depend for what you would like to use this light.
Looking at the specs i noticed: Colour temperature: 7000K
A color temperature of 700o kelvin is ice cold bluish and will look ugly on videos and pictures without color correction.
1000 Lumen is probably too much for a focus light but ways too less for a video light except for night or very deep dives.
For the price it can be a nice focus light and Epoque usually build nice sturdy things.

I agree that 7000K will look ugly, but I will use it only for focus light and if the light from the strobes will dominate the lamp light will not be seen on the picture. I will probably use the 50% setting when used for focusing and 100% only when hunting for stuff to take pictures of.
The LEDs with the highest efficiency (lumen/watt) are the ones with unpleasantly high color temp. Warm-white LEDs usually have lower efficiency.
Aren’t there anyone with 1st hand experience from this light?

I have this focus light that I use on a Canon S95 I also have two sola video 1200 so I can give you a good comparison
As focus light the Epoque works perfectly, the setting at 10% power or the 50% are the most used.
With 100% you can do a night dive but you blind other people.
Colour temperature is not an issue for stills.
I do not use it for video but I know someone that does (two). Most likely you need to white balance or set a colour temperature as 7000 is outside the auto white balance range of some cameras
Other than that a fine light at great price

Thanks Interceptor121. That was the kind of response I was hoping for.
