Lembeh Nudibranch. Phyllidosmium sp.

  1. From the Lembeh Strait.

Anyone know which species of nudibranch this is? Phyllodesmium hyalinum? Phyllidosmium crypticum? Phyllodesmium lizardense? Something else? The literature on this genus is so confusing.

  2. Thanks Jim. Yes, that's another possibility, and my slug does look similar to the ones verified by Richard Willan on Nudipixel, but most of those "Phyllodesmium jackobsenae" on Nudipixel don't look like the specimens in my books (Goslinger, Behrens, Valdes and Humann, Deloach), or the specimens in the original description.

Marli on the facebook nudibase group reckons its this undescribed species, although I do wonder if that is actually a variant of one of these other species described since (or before). It doesn't help that the cerata of some of this genus seem to become thinner when they are on the move (according to this paper).
