Wide Angle Lens for Panasonic LX-7

  1. Hi,

I'm curious, has anyone use the Fisheye/FIX/H20-tools UWL-04 wide angle lens with the LX-7, or any camera with 24mm for the matter? Here is what I'm reading:

    http://www.nauticam-europe.com/H2O-Tools/lens-und-Adaptors/Adaptor/wide-Angle-/-Fisheye-Lens-UWL-04-M52

Here is what caught my attention:

With this fisheye lens you extend the picture angle for example to 165° (28 mm focal lenght), 130° at 35mm focal length.

So you can actually get both fish eye and wide angle in one wet lens! It seems like this lens has been discontinued from FIX's website, but there would be old stock around.

I'm also looking into the "Zen Underwater 105", but ideally I prefer at least 120 degree fov for wide angle. Inon UWL-H100 + Dome is out of the equation since it's too heavy and very expensive.

When can we see wide angle/fish eye lens that work across all the 24 and 28mm camera without vignette???!!!!

  2. Due to the 24mm and very wide lens on the lx7 none of the semi fisheye on the market work as you have to zoom till 50mm to eliminate vignette

The inon UWLH-100 is the widest you can get with the lx7 and needs step zoom to 28mm

This is not an issue for video and general wide angle but is a problem for wrecks and cfwa. The latter can be fixed with powerful strobes as you step back

  3. Is this the same for both LX7 and RX100? Or can you get a better fisheye on the RX-100? You see I'm tying hard to decide witch camera to by, but my knowledge is limited yet...

  4. The RX-100 can work with Inon UWL-h100 28m67 + Dome. The LX-7 can work with Inon uwl-h100 28m67 but not with the dome. So the max you can go with Lx-7 is about 105 degree, while the RX-100 can go up to 135 degree.

It really depends on if you do a lot of wreck diving or not, which requite the wider angle. If you're taking video, pay attention to the RX100's menu system that doesn't allow you to custom white balance easily during video mode. You shouldn't consider RX-100, but RX-100M2 instead because the RX-100 doesn't perform well under low light.

  5. There are many fisheye options for the RX100 not just the UWLH-100 with dome

    Fix UWL28M52 and UWL04 give 160 degrees

You can also connect the old Inon UFL165AD and get 160 degree

The RX100 zoom mechanism and the 28mm make most lenses work the LX7 on the other hand pretty much only works with the UWLH-100 to the point that for video you are almost good just with the wetmate dome

Having said that for video you don't need a fisheye lens in fact video lights can't even cover the field of view at close range so I would not make that a criteria
