  1. Key largo pics, Which is better?

First, the green morey. Which Strobe placement do you like better? Above pointing down.

Or, the from the left in his face.

    Next the school of goatfish.

This is the blue channel from the above photo. I like the effect. Again which one do you like better.

One more. Mask or no mask.

  2. Ok, two more. One or two?

  3. The second lot - I like number one better - the subject is more obvious. Fish half in frame bottom right detracts. I like the shot overall - nice.

The moreys don't work as well for me, I think it's trhe composition (and water in the background looks a bit too blue to me). Perhaps a crop and selective color adjustment?

Like the diver with mask better personally, though the second one is funnier!

How's the Ike housing/ds-125/18-55 combo treating you?

  4. Hi <edit>William,

If I had to pick a moray shot it would be the first as his face is slightly tilted away, so we can see the bottom of the chin. It looks less like a cardboard cutout.

The goatfish - I don't like them swimming away.

The grunts I like the first one with the unobscured faces.

The DM just looks freaky w/o the mask..>:-)

Good stuff - it seems like you're digging your new setup.

    Cheers

    James

  5. It's William.........Jimmy!!.........LOL

  6. Rob. I checked the RAW and the colour of the water in the background is accurate. There was great visability and it was at 110 ft and the water was just a beautifull deep blue. I shifted the hue of blue towards cyan but I dont like the effect. I turned the saturation of blue to 0 and it had it had a cool effect.

What about the diver with mask do you like. To me is is just boring - just Diver portrait with blue background.

The "Ike housing/ds-125/18-55 combo" is treating me great though Im having a little difficulty adjusting my boyancy. Even with two wetsuits on I only wear 4 lbs of lead so any change in wight I really notice. The added weight of the housing is a really big change. I like the way the camera ballances with the led weight in it but then I have to counter that by taking 2 lbs off my belt but with half my weight being held out in front of me I have a tendancy for my head to sink and my feet to float.

James....You got my name right this time. LOL

Hum...When you blow that sucker up at full resolution it doesnt look at all like cardboard but I can see what you are talking about in the web sized version. I like the second one because I can see his teeth though.

kdietz - I dont get it??

  7. I typed "Bill" the first time then went back and fixed it after Karl's post.

    Cheers

    James

  8. William,

Great shots! I like both of the Morays, I think I like the one with the teeth showing a little more, if it were cropped some.

You said you liked the housing better with the weight in? Is that because of it being top heavy with a strobe or some other reason? I have taken the weight out and it is just a bit negative in fresh water with the strobe but feels nice. I am in Mexico all next week and am wondering if I should take the weight with me as I have not had the housing in salt water yet. (Not much in St. Louis area :D ) I would like to hear your opinion.

    Dave

  9. It is still negative in saltwater without the weight but but it has a tendancy to fall forward. With the weights in the housing just sits in your hand perfectly ballanced.
