  1. good news bad news

I have been taking u/w photo with my canon G2 for 1 1/2 years now and have only had my strobe (DS125) for a few months. It took me a while to save up for the strobe but even without it, I managed to get some really cool shots just using the camera flash. In March, the flip-out screen on my camera quit so I sent it in on extended warranty for repair. However, they decided that an EXCHANGE was in order because it costs more to fix the G2 than to replace it!!! Normally, I would jump at the chance to upgrade my electronic toys for free but this time I'm devastated... I now have a housing that doesn't fit the camera.

I have two choices, sell the housing & buy one for the G5 (the upgrade) or buy another G2 (& hope the screen doesn't pack it in).

Who has experience with the G5 out there? Has anyone used both? Which way would YOU go if you had this choice?

  2. I do like the colours better that come from the G5, I would take it and go for the new housing, and try and sell your G2 housing.

I may have thought it would be easier to sell the housing than to buy a G2 ? but ya never know.

  3. Selling the housing might be tough.

I suggest doing a search on Ebay and buy a used G2 - it shouldn't cost much.

Then save up your pennies for a new G5 housing.

    Sound good?

    Cheers

    James

  4. Yeah, it looks like the G2 would be the least expensive way to go right now. I probably wouldn't get much for the housing if I tried to sell it. On the up-side, I've had a couple days to play with the G5 now and Canon has done a nice job of upgrading it. So, gee whiz, :D I guess I'll be stuck with two cameras.

  5. The saga continues....

I ended up returning the camera. It was to my advantage in the end and now I'm trying to make a new choice for camera (& sell my housing). I'm wondering if anyone has any comments on the following:

    Nikon Coolpix - 5000, 5400 or 5800 and Canon G5?

I'd like to know how the manual focus works on them and how well yellow turns out? (The G2 couldn't do yellow in low light. It was fuzz.) Plus, on the Nikon, how long do the batteries work?

  6. CP5000:

Manual focus is fairly good (typical of P&S cameras.

Yellow? don't know what you mean.

Batteries. Ouch. One dive if you shoot a lot. That is why I made an extended battery. It now lasts all day, easily.
