  1. California work

    Hi everyone.

Well, after 10 weeks off from shoulder surgery, I transitioned from film to digi. Here are three of my shots from my very first jaunt with digi. I'd like to hear from any of you regarding composition and lighting. I used my diffusers and used the beam angle to light the subjucet and I got almost no back scatter. My histogram allowed me to adjust exposure so all I had to do was adjust levels in Photoshop. ANY and ALL feedback is most welcome. And the shoulder is sore as hell from the diving...against my DOC's orders but screw him..lol

  2. Way to go Joe!

I personally like the first one best - but would recommend a tighter crop to get rid of the distraction on the right.

    What's your setup? I think I remember Subal D100

    Cheers

    James

  3. Hi james,

Great minds think alike. I have a tighter pic but did not like the reduction of dorsal fin. That is only my thought though, what would a judge say? Or a magazine editor? I've had many give me brutal feedback....based on what I like versus what they like. The other one (which I will post soon) gives a funny position of the sculpin and does not compliment the 2/3 rule, at least as I see it.

But I agree with your assessment that the right side (other than the dorsal) is distracting.

  4. Hmm, I guess I think the first shot, while unusual in angle, is a bit flat in terms of lighting, the bright blue background is too close in value to the foreground subject. Maybe a tighter crop would help...?

I really like the Ronquil shot, very nice lighting, just a little brighter on it's face.

    Rig?

  5. Setup

I shot these using a Titan D100 housing and two Ike DS50's with diffusers. The first pic looks really nice on my laptop, but when I loaded it on my desktop, the image does look a little flat. Guess I need to calibrate the two so they behave the same way. All of these were shot with a 60mm macro lens with Woody's push on dipoter.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Joe
