  1. Cannon A40 with Sea & Sea YS40A Strobe

I have a MX10 with a YS40A strobe and I am trying to figure out if I can use the strobe with my Canon A40 and WP-DC200 housing. Has anyone tried this or a similar setup by just adding a fiber trigger cord and have the strobe trigger correctly (worried about the pre-flash thing) with the Canon's internal flash.

  2. If the Canon A40 fires a preflash, then you will not be able to use it with a "regular" strobe. The slave strobe will fire too early, on the preflash - which takes place before the shutter is even open.

I think you can test this by taking a photo is a dark room and watching the camera's flash. Sometimes you can see two flashes on a long exposure shot.

I'm sure other Canon users here can help.

  3. The A40 does fire a preflash - you will need a digital strobe.

  4. Thanks ...

Thanks for the info guys. I was affraid that it was going to be an issue. Now I guess I start looking for a digital strobe that won't cost an arm and a leg.
