Need some help with Philippines fish

7 posts
  1. I recently took my first trip to the Philippines (and first trip to the Pacific with a camera). Doing the ID when I got home was nearly overwhelming. Here are the fish shots I couldn't identify. I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can give. I suspect most of these are easy for those of you familiar with the area. I'll post inverts in a separate thread.

A couple of shrimp gobies that I can't find.

  2. I would guess a tilefish based on the shape, but nothing matches

Crocodile Needlfish has been suggested, but this has a square not a forked tail,

Thanks and sorry for the multiple posts. Hope that's the preferred way to ask for so much help.

  5. I'll make a start:

The one that 'should be easy' is a checkered snapper (Lutjanus decussatus)

Indeed it is. Thanks, I think a clear case of overload with so many unfamiliar species.

  7. The one you thought was a sand diver is one. Spotted sand diver ( Trichonotus setiger)
