Was that shot with the kit lens?
Todd, Yes It was, no flash of course. Was that shot with the kit lens?
Cropped and fixed in PS
Someone here is JEALOUS!
Comments: If you have a photo editing program, you might try "burning in" some gray into the whaleshark's "lip" as the bright white overeposed portion can be easily improved.
Thanks for posting the shot!
Cheers
James
Thanks, with my luck once I get the set-up wet I'll have the 100mm on when that comes by. Best darn Whaleshark eyeball you will ever see I guess. LOL
Wow! First time with your new setup? And that was your subject! How great is that!!!! (admittedly jealous here... I have never seen one)

] James, You are absolutely right. I will try to do this in Photoshop. Would appreciate a hint on which tool to use. Do you think I have made the whale too
brown ? Any others who want to comment the picture
Cheers Lars
I think what he was talking about was using the "burn" tool set to highlights and burning it in a bit.
I just played with it a bit and couldn't make much difference. I reset the levels and got more midrange so it wasn't quite as flat, took out a little yellow. The highlights are pretty blown out (on this copy anyway). Maybe you have more information on the original shot. I don't think this has changed much.
Nice pic, I'm jealous! Going to the Sea of Cortez in July to hopefully see some of these guys.
Jack
Ok I have worked on the pic a bit.
I guess I was so eager to show it around.
comments please
Big difference on the blown out highlights! The "lip" looks much better now - but I think I might like the blue water in the first shot better. Is there any way that you could have the "best of both worlds?"
Good shot.
Cheers
James
