Maintenence of WP-DC300?

  1. Maintenence of WP-DC300?

Please pardon a stupid question from an absolute newbie...

I've just got a brand new Canon S45 & WP-DC300 housing and I'm off to Tahiti (tough, but someone has to go...).

I think I understand the importance of post diving fresh water soaking of the case, etc., but I'm unclear how often I need to use the supplied silicone lubricant on the main O-ring.

    So my question is:

Do I lubricate the O-ring after every dive, or just every day, or just after every trip, or once a year, or even never?

    Thanks, BarryT

  2. You should lubricate the main o-ring whenever it is not "shiny." This is usually every time you open the housing as you should run the oring through your fingers to remove sand and fuzz.

    Cheers

    Thanks, James.

Do you actually remove the O-ring to "run it through your fingers" or do you do it in place?

  4. I don't have that housing - I am referring to housings that have a captured o-ring in general.

    Cheers

  5. I use that housing with the Canon S40 and usually lubricate the O-ring once a day before I go on my first dive. Take it off gently, apply a very small amount of lubricant and run it gently between your two fingers before replacing it. I also ordered two spare sets of O-rings from Canon... always like to have a fresh set on hand just in case something happens!
