Diffuser management

  1. Diffuser management

I have gone through several different ways to manage my diffusers, and this is the one that seems to work the best. I tried stainless steel wire, I tried different string, and rubber bands, but these don't seem to rot, and do a very nice job. You can usually find shock cord at your friendly marine supply store (places like West Marine) in bulk for less than US50cents a foot. I used 1/8 inch shock cord, tied knots in the ends, and then used a small zip tie to create the loop.

Here it is on my DS50 strobe:

And here it is off the strobe, and looped around one of the handles of the strobe arm ball joint:

The nice thing is that I can manage the put on or take off a diffuser in full 5mm neoprene gloves with one hand, and when the diffuser is off the strobe, it's easy to keep it out of the frame, and out of the light path so it doesn't cast a shadow.

I have the same arrangement on my SS200s as well.

    Just thought I'd share!

  2. Good stuff Jong, thanks.

  3. Gee, you got me beat... went hi tech.

I realized on short notice that the diffuser on a DS125 comes off pretty easy.

No string, no wire... nothing handy... hey the elastic band off of the cheapie id your luggage tag will fit... hey it worked, maybe not well but it worked.
