  1. Sigma 12-24 and Sigma 105 Macro with Ike port?

    Hello all... new here :)

I'm about to get a D70 with an Ikelite housing.

I would like to ask the following...

    1) Is there a port available for the Sigma 12-24?

    2) Is there a port available for the Sigma 105mm Macro?

(Neither of these are on the SLR Port Chart on Ikelite's website)

    3) Can these lenses share the same port with the 18-70 (#5503.55)?

I'd like to appologize to everyone for my newb-ness!

    Thank you in advanced!

  2. anyone? Ike?

  3. I think you should do a search here. This question has been asked before - which is probably why no one is answering it again.

Look up above the topic of this post and click on "Search."

Let me know if you can't find what you need.

  4. Sigma 12-24 and 105 macro in Ikelite ports

    Hello,

The Sigma 12-24mm lens will not fit in the Ikelite port barrel. No room for the zoom clamp plus will not fit over the large front end of this particular lens. I tried the Canon version at my local shop. This lens also does not focus to 1' or less and and has no provision to thread on a diopter to for full zoom range focus behind a dome port.

Best rectilinear wide angle zoom for Nikon and Fuji S2 mounts is the Nikon 12-24mm DX lens.. Works in Ikelite's #5503.50 port with no diopter. A little more expensive, but well worth it.

If you can live without zooming and will crop out the slight curvature on your computer the Sigma 15mm Fisheye lens focuses to 5.9" and fits in the Ikelite #5503 standard dome port. Works great at low cost (less than $400.00 U.S. dollars.) Software also exists to "de-fish" photos taken with this and other Fisheye lenses. I know it's been discussed in the image improvement forum before.

The Sigma 105mm should fit a long flat port. Measure the lens maxmum length and refer to Ikelite's port chart.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

The Sigma 12-24mm....does not focus to 1' or less and and has no provision to thread on a diopter to for full zoom range focus behind a dome port.

    According to sigma's website

It has a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches (28cm) at all focal lengths.
  6. Why don't you try it out William and let us know how close of a subject you can focus on using your Ike setup? Perhaps you can borrow the lens from a friend or a local camera shop? Never mind, I just re-read Dave's post and I see that it will not slide into the port.

    Cheers

  7. Yes, it is has 3.4 inch diameter. On ike's port chart is says max 3.3inch diameter. My 100mm macro is 3.1 inches and it barely fits. It is 4 inches long so it would be a different port than what the kit lens uses. I think that you could grind the opening of the port out enough to get the lens to fit, but i dont know how you could zoom so there wouldnt be much point. Have any good ideas?

  8. I just used the Nikon 12-24DX lens in Ike's 5503.50 port this weekend and it worked great. At 24mm I was able to focus on subjects that almost touched the port and the images were extremely sharp - this was with no diopter. Couldn't focus quite as close at 12mm but anything w/in a foot or so of the dome was good to go.

I'll post sample photos when I get the review finished.

    Cheers

  9. We are working on a way to utilize these bigger diameter lenses like the 12-24 Sigma............

  10. Ike, that would be awesome. Then all you'll need is a housing for the 1D MkII!!

    :)

  11. Sigma 12-24mm closest focus

William is right, and I stand corrected. The Sigma web site DOES indeed say their 12-24mm lens will focus to 11 inches at all focal lengths.

I must have been thinking of another zoom lens with less than a 1' minimum focus. Maybe Sigma's 15-30mm which was getting great reviews on the surface photography sites? (Will check the web site on this lense's specs.)

At any rate, a port modification to allow larger diameter lenses to fit on Ikelite SLR-DC housings might be the ticket for us Canon Digital Rebel shooters until Canon comes out with something in a wide angle rectilinear zoom.

Still don't need a Canon EOS1D MKII , though :) The Digital Rebel and CMOS sensor is Muy Bueno :)
