  1. sea&sea DX-10D, or yet another "housing a 10d"

ok, after some blunders, of which you will hear more soon as an fyi, i am looking for a housing for my 10d.

now as much as i would like it, the subal is a bit in the expensive range :)

so i have been looking at both the ikelite and the sea&sea, and i am currently leaning towards the sea&sea as i would like it to stay compatible with my inon strobes. in addition there are 3 shops down the road that service sea&sea which would be a great plus

i searched through the board and the only thread i found al ittle info on it was the following:

    http://wetpixel.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-5130.phtml

has anyone tried it yet? is anyone willing to venture an opinion?

and in the same vein, i understand that the sea&sea domes are acrylic. would anyone venture some thoughts on the athena domes?

thanks for any input and help

    /paul

  2. There's nothing wrong w/ acrylic domes, in my opinion. While acrylic is easier to scratch, if they scratch on the outside, it's easy to buff out the scratches in the field. You can't do that with glass. They are much lighter too.

Sorry I can't help you with the 10D housing Paul. Have you considered adding Jonah to your list? I think they are in your price range.

    Cheers

  3. jonah, yes i have :? i'll have more on that topic in short while...

but you're right, acrylic does have many advantages :)

  4. Ikelite should have Sea & Sea/Inon cables in the coming week, so I would not disqualify them as of yet.

  5. that would be great :)

i currently have an ike housing for my 5050, and really like it. only reason i was not seriously looking at ike for the 10d was the strobe issue.

  6. Hi,

A (good) dealer told me that the Sea & Sea NX Port Line (which is the one for the DX-10D housing) has optical glass.

I've found this description (for Port protector) on the Sea & Sea site:

    -- Front Port Cover

Soft cover fits over the face of the port and protects the optical glass surface from nicks and scratches which mar image quality. Three sizes (S/M/L) are available.--

I believed so far the the NX line is made of optical glass.

I've never had a Sea & Sea housing / Port in my hands.

So please confirm that the ports are really made of acrylic like Ikelite ports?

    Thank you,

    Julian

  7. That refers to the flat port. The dome is not glass.

    Cheers

  8. I have heard that the Athena is a very nice port, if cost is an issue I would just go for the regular Sea & Sea acrylic dome (you can sometimes pick them up on ebay for about $300-400).

  9. We did get the cord component for Sea&Sea/Inon-to-Ikelite sync cord back from plating. Now we just have to figure out how to make 'em............

  10. thanks for the info ike,

any idea how long that could take? :)

    /paul

  11. Should have next week. Current thinking is to provide only manual operation............
