Help needed: What is the thread size of this Ikelite strobe adapter
9 posts
Hi,
The adapter on the attached pic is for using an Ikelite strobe with ULCS and similar strobe arms. I want to use it in a DIY project and need a screw nut for it.
All I know is that the thread is definitively not metric... Could someone please help and provide the specifications (like UNC 1/2")? Thanks!
Jock
My guess is 1/4-20 but I don't know what strobe this is for.
Bill
Bill,
thanks for your answer - it is for a SS200 strobe (the old workhorse...)
Jock
Edit:
Just measured - the outer diameter is 9.5mm, which is 0.374", so 1/4" will be too small.
In that case it is a 3/8 16 the threads look to be too far apart to be the 3/8-24.
3/8 is also the larger sized standard tripod screw size - you might have a tripod head or camera with a female thread to test it on. Since you are in Germany, going to a hardware store to match may not be an option like it is in the US (which is what I have done with underwater gizmos for DIY projects) but maybe try automobile parts stores catering to US cars (if such exists).
@ Bill and Tom,
thanks! There are a few specialized hardware stores around Cologne, but instead of trying to find it there (stainless doesn't make it easier), I searched on ebay Germany and found it.
Life could be so easy if you US guys wouldn't be so stubborn and finally change to... METRIC!

Life could be so easy if you US guys wouldn't be so stubborn...
Look at the Ikelite advert: American stubbornness is their raison d'être...
In our lab we are happily metric, in the manufacturing side of the business everything is "English" (even though England is mostly metric, I think). As for American Stubbornness; I guess I plead guilty (still diving and still trying to get "amazing" photos) but maybe stubbornness can't make up for artistic talent.

Feedback - just in case anyone else is searching for this information: Bill was right, the thread is 3/8-16.
Thanks again,
Jock
@Bill: I am one step up the Zen ladder - The journey is the reward, not the artistic picture!!!!
